Digital Retinal Imaging

To assess your eyes comprehensively, we use digital imaging technology that’s at the forefront of optometry. When detected at a very early stage, many eye diseases can be treated effectively without complete vision loss.

Digital imaging allows our eye doctors to store electronic pictures of your retina, so that your condition can be compared from year to year. This is regarded as one of the best ways for our optometrists to inspect for eye conditions that involve slow changes over an extended period, such as diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma and macular degeneration.

Zeiss Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) Analyzer

Regarded as the gold standard for checking the progression of glaucoma and other eye conditions, a Zeiss OCT scan is a highly advanced version of imaging technology. We offer OCT scans as an accurate way to analyze the retina and optic nerve. This technique uses light waves to generate high resolution pictures of the structural layers at the back of the eye. Cross-sectional and color-coded images of the retina are thereby provided for our eye doctors to inspect for the early detection of glaucoma, wet and dry macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and retinal detachment.

No radiation is involved in this diagnostic procedure. Performed in our Calgary, AB, offices, the test takes approximately 10 minutes, is noninvasive and painless. Please call a Browz Eyeware clinic for more information, or to schedule your OCT scan!

Zeiss Humphrey Visual Field Testing

Total vision includes a sharp view of your periphery (“side” vision), in addition to seeing what’s in front of you. Our visual field test checks the range of your peripheral vision to evaluate if you have any side vision loss, visual field disturbances, or blind spots (“scotomas”). The success of this test depends heavily upon patient cooperation and understanding.

Our optometrist will ask you to fixate on a central object, cover one eye and describe what you can see on the sides of your visual field. Specialized equipment, such as bright and dim flashing lights, may be used to enhance the accuracy of this evaluation. Each eye is tested separately, and the full assessment is done within 15-45 minutes. The machinery then produces a computerized map of your visual field, which we will analyze to identify if you have any deficiencies in your peripheral vision.

Matrix FDT Analyzer

We use this equipment in our Calgary and Calgary clinics to help identify the presence of glaucoma at an early stage by isolating magnocellular cells. A visual field test may point to the presence of a scotoma (blind spot), and the shape and size of the scotoma provides us with significant information about the severity of certain eye diseases that affect the optic nerve, the eye and visual structures in the brain. With glaucoma, optic nerve damage causes a unique defect in the visual field. Optic neuropathy or damage to the retina will result in a different type of visual field problem.

TearLab Osmolarity Monitor

Dry Eye Syndrome is an irritating condition that affects many people. It is defined by a chronic insufficiency in the quantity or quality of lubrication on your eye. We use the TearLab System to analyze your tears, as a part of our clinical diagnosis of this condition.

Pachymetry

This medical device is used by our Browz Eyeware eye doctors to measure the thickness of your cornea. It is often employed before refractive surgery, for diagnosing keratoconus (a thinning and distortion of the cornea), for laser refractive surgery, and it is helpful for glaucoma screening in patients at high risk.

RCMP/Police Contrast Sensitivity Testing

This evaluation is used for applicants who have undergone any type of laser refractive surgery. It tests visual sensitivity to seeing contrast.

Fit Light Trainer

We use this revolutionary technology in our offices in Calgary and Calgary, AB, to help upgrade your physical performance through a dynamic training process. Using a wireless system with LED lights as targets, your reactions times, speed, coordination and agility are all measured to provide instant feedback.

Corneal Mapping

A painless, non-invasive medical imaging tool, corneal topography is used for mapping the surface curvature of the front surface of your eye. Also referred to as photokeratoscopy or videokeratography, this test provides important information for assessing vision quality. The cornea is responsible for handling about 70% of the refractive power of your eyes, which makes its topography very significant to eyesight.

A 3D map is generated by this technology, and our optometrists will use this image for the early diagnosis and care of many different eye conditions. At Browz Eyeware, we also use the pictures to help plan refractive surgery, such as LASIK, or to evaluate that your contact lenses fit properly. The entire procedure takes only a few seconds.
